Research and Planning - Double Page Spread and Contents Page Analyse
These are pictures I analysed a music magazine's front cover and another music magazine's contents page. I did this to gain ideas and to show i understand the different features. It allowed me to see how other big companies layout these pages and understand the different features on them, which I have labelled myself.

Research and Planning - Music Magazine Double Page Spread Analysis: Hip-Hop
Jay-Z is wearing dark glasses to hide his eyes, which implies he is a powerful artist and doesn't need to make eye conact with poeple due to his power. On the right side of the page, where the tet is, a huge red 'J' is in the centre of the page. The huge 'J' is just another supporting peice of evidence to show his power. And as I hvae said in my previous blogs, power and superiorioty is important in hip-hop music; it is talked a lot about in the music. This is how I can tell it is hip-hop.
Then the fact there is a lot of used of the colours red, black and white is another way I can tell it is a hip-hop magazine.

Research and Planning - Music Magazine Contents Page Analysis: Hip-Hop
The model on this page is wearing lots of gold chains as it is a clear reference to money and fashion, which is, again, a bit importance in hip-hop. The colour red is making another appearance in this page as it is really meaningful in hip-hop.
The page actually makes the featured artit really prominent as it is suggesting his superiority in this usic genre. And with him wearing no top, and the tattoos on his body, it implieshe, and hiphop, are connected to street crime/gangs.

Research and Planning - Music Magazine Front Cover Analysis: Hip-Hop
This magazine represents hip-hop in many different ways and it can be seen through it's different features and the featured artists. For example, the model has gold teeth, which gold is very popular in hip-hop music as it is linked to money. His face appears big and powerful on the fornt cover as hip-hop artistrap about how important power is, and often refer to themselves as powerful.
Another reference to money can be seen in the name 'A$AP' too.
The colour red is a large representation too and is seen a lot in the hip-hop community, which goes back to the gang wars in America: Crips vs. Bloods.
The cover lines also includeother hip-hop artists referring as too who will be appearing on the magazine.

Research and Planning - Final Design Sketches
These are my final designs I have drew which I want to implement onto Phtotshop. I have changed a few things from my initial sketches, such as the placement of the quote on the doublepage spread.
Any colour added is there only to represent where some of the colour will be shown. I have only highlighted the key areas for colour, such as the yellow box around the text onthe contents age. The idea of this was to show the font will be that colour.
Research and Plannning - Initial Sketches
These are my initial sketches of my music magazine. I drew thee as a sketch to put down my idea. My final design could bea lot different from these, or even the same.

Research and Planning - Evaluation of College Magazine
![]() |
College Magazine Completed |
My actual magazine was improved via the input from the questions I had asked my target audience. I was able to see what was needed, which was more cover lines and a bit more colour.
Overall, in terms of the colours used I was quite happy. I stuck with the '3 colour rule' by using blue, red and white. though, in the form of an explosion I was able to add more colours to help m front cover stand out and seem more attractive. The actual explosion itself helped my plug stand out more too.
My main image is good too as it promotes a happy life on campus with the student's bright smile. The student badge is clear and visible too to ensure that the potential audience know it's a college magazine.
There is a nice amount of space on the right where I positioned the cover lines, without the image intruding. The switch between colours from each cover story title is unique too and it improves any dullness and shows college is fun and exciting, yet not manic.
